Alert Bay for the 50th Anniversary of June Sports. This June Sports will be on Father's day weekend (June 13-15).
We are excited about celebrating our 50th year of this great event, and we look forward to our culture, tradition and sportsmanship bringing us all together. We are marking the 50th year of June Sports with a tribal march and opening ceremonies, we ask that all people in the tribal march bring their regalia and walk with their tribe and the teams to wear their uniforms and join in. There will be many exciting events going all-through-out the weekend.
The Salmon Prince/Princess pageant will kick-off the June Sports celebration on the evening of June the 12th at the Namgis Big House at 7p.m. and we would also like to invite the past 49 Salmon Princesses and 21 Princes to come and honor us with their presence and join this years royalty in the parade. So please bring your regalia and participate in the annual parade and opening ceremonies, help to make this 50th Anniversary the best ever.
The parade will start on Friday June 13 and will lead the way to the Big House field. This year the parade will be joined half way through by the Kwakwaka 'wakw canoe pullers for the march up to the field for the opening ceremonies.
Family Night also starts on Friday at the LawrenceAmbersMemorialRecCenter, which will have many fun and exciting things for the whole family, including the Bungie run, Balloon Typhoon, Maze, Joust, Bounce-A-Ramah, Dance Dance Revolution, and Face Painting. Family Night will start at 5:00 and will end at 10:00 and entrance fee is $2.00. Because this is the 50th anniversary of June Sports we are going to have a fireworks show which will follow Family Night at the Namgis Breakwater.
